SUSSEX COUNTY OFFICE OF GIS ENTERPRISE IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
In order to properly support the anticipated operations of the various projects currently underway, the County is looking to leverage its current investment in GIS technology as a means to distribute both spatial and tabular data through the implementation of a enterprise document management system (EDMS).
The execution of an enterprise document management system is a key element of the county’s 5 year strategic plan. Establish an EDMS platform that can be efficiently distributed as a shared service to all county departments and 24 municipalities. Ultimately, the EDMS will provide a global solution to meet the needs of the County’s core government, as well as to establish the infrastructure to offer a document management solution as a Shared Service for their municipalities.

The data developed through the agreement will support existing GIS efforts in the Township and the County as well as promote “open government” through a public GIS portal (or website) for use by residents and businesses in Vernon Township.
Sussex County provides no-cost internet GIS web hosting through the New Jersey Mapping Assistance Partnership Program (NJMapp), which is an innovative partnership program that provides a mechanism for Statewide development of spatial data as well as a dynamic infrastructure for the maintenance and sharing of geographic data via the internet.
GIS is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, geographic data, and personnel designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze, and display all forms of geographically referenced information. The Sussex County Office of GIS Management (SCOGISM) is responsible for the management of geo-spatial data, technical expertise, and assistance related to GIS for County and local government within Sussex County. The SCOGISM has been providing GIS services and support to County and local government since 2003. During this time, the Office has assisted numerous Sussex County municipalities, the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group, the Divisions of Engineering, Planning, Health, Office of Emergency Management, Weights and Measures, and Office of the Prosecutor in the use of GIS as well as in the development of numerous online internet GIS applications.
